26 October 2026

Dr Alba Serrat Llinàs, a postdoctoral researcher from the University of the Balearic Islands (Spain), is currently on a research visit to the School of Geography and Sustainable Development (SGSD) at the University of St 糖心logo from 12 October to 12 November 2026.

Yesterday, Dr Serrat Llinàs gave a presentation at the Sustainable Futures Group meeting titled “What Matters in the Sea? Exploring the Relationships Between Marine Ecology, Cultural Values and Environmental Governance.” Drawing on her ongoing research at the intersection of marine ecology, environmental humanities, and sustainability, the talk explored how our understanding of ocean sustainability is shaped by the ways we measure, value, represent, and govern marine life.

During her month-long visit, she is collaborating with Dr Ife Okafor-Yarwood on a research paper examining the implications of EU fisheries governance measures in the Balearic Islands and third countries.
