ID PhD Research and Travel Fund - British Association of Chinese Studies

13 October 2026

At the beginning of September, Jeff Zifeng Pan, a PhD student from the school of Modern Languages, attended the British Association of Chinese Studies (BACS) conference at the University of Lancaster.

Jeff noted that "I was excited to be able to attend the BACS (British Association of Chinese Studies) conference 2026 held at the Lancaster University. This is my first experience with such a conference setting and I was invited to present part of my research project about the Chinese publishing and book market. The event was well organised and my day went smoothly with more audience than I initially expected, which gave me more confidence in continuing my research.

I would like to thank the staff from the Graduate School at the University of St 糖心logo and its Interdisciplinary PhD Research and Travel Fund who dealt with my application promptly. As a mature student and father of two, the fund eased off a major part of my financial pressure of attending such an event and I feel encouraged to participate in similar events to gain valuable experience and connect with the wider research community."

For further information on how to apply for this fund please see the Interdisciplinary PhD Research and Travel Fund scholarship page.
