Research areas
Zuzanna Hordejuk is a PhD researcher and Associate Lecturer broadly interested in intergroup conflict, inequality, and social interactions in online spaces.
Her current research examines negative interactions in online gaming, with a particular focus on the attitudes that underpin hostility towards women. She explores whether the perceived threat posed by women’s entry into male-dominated competitive online gaming can foster hostile behaviour towards female players.
She is also interested in cross-cultural differences in these behaviours, the ways players justify and normalise hostility in ways that sustain “toxic gaming culture, and the role of benevolent sexism in shaping how women are treated in these spaces. Through this work, she aims to identify interventions that reduce these negative attitudes and help create more inclusive online gaming communities.
